del Sol Phase I and II, Tucson, AZ
Casino
del Sol is a new, highly themed, approximately 200,000 s.f. Class III gaming
facility for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe in Tucson, Arizona. The project is located
on tribal land that has a half-mile frontage along Valencia Road, to the southwest
of Tucson, Arizona. It will be the tribe's second casino.
For this fast-track project, Chavez-Grieves provided structural design and
engineering services. This project was completed in two phases. Phase I includes
a 70,000 square foot facility to temporarily operate up to 500 slot machines,
as well as a 4,400 seat amphitheater. The main core of the Phase I building
will be renovated after Phase II opens to house a 36-lane bowling center.
Phase II will complete the build-out of the casino and entertainment facility.
Also included in Phase II is a 15-table poker room, a 1,000 seat bingo hall,
an off-track betting counter, 9,000 square feet of expansion space and multiple
themed dining venues.
Casino del Sol Ampitheater, Tucson, AZ
The
Casino Del Sol Amphitheater is set against the backdrop of Black Mountain
in Tucson and is designed to seat 4,400 guests. The amphitheater is designed
to house a variety of social and cultural events with a strong emphasis on
a summer concert series for the Tucson regional area. The concept of the design
to link the amphitheater to the hotel and casino through a series of plazas
and pathway provides the guest with a full range of entertainment activities.
The theater will consist of 1,200 theater style seats, 15 corporate-style
box seats and 3,000 festival-style lawn seats.
Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort, Casino & Parking Garage, Mescalero, NM
This is a $110 million project being developed by the Mescalero Apache Tribe in southeastern New Mexico, is scheduled to open in November 2004. This project will completely replace the existing resort hotel and casino, the Inn of the Mountain Gods and Casino Apache. For this fast-track project, the eSteel process was used to provide connection design, detailing, fabrication and erection for both the structural and miscellaneous stell packages.
The project provides for constructing a themed upscale resort with 275 guest rooms and suites. Guests and visitors can enjoy 37,000 square feet of gaming space, featuring the latest in Las Vegas-style gaming. A sports bar/nightclub will be located in the casino area, and a new Player's Club will allow guests to exchange points at nearly all resort retail outlets. There will also be a Convention Center, featuring a 20,000 square foot Grand Ballroom. The project also includes a 1,549- space parking garage over 567,000 square feet. It is subterranean structure with three levels directly under the Resort's Casino and Convention Center. When completed, it will be on eof the largest such parking garages in North America. With the exception of a few concrete retaining walls at grade changes, the garage is completely framed in steel., including a braced frame lateral system.
Black
Oak Casino, Tuolomne, CA
Phase I included a 20,000 square foot metal building with a freestanding false
facade. It contains 600 slot machines, 6 gaming tables, a central bar and
a restaurant. The facade consists of columns made of stone that is indigenous
to the area and large abstracted black oak leaves built of metal. After the
Phase II is complete, Phase I will be converted to conference and meeting
space.
Phase II of this project will be a two-story structure with a total of approximately
126,000 sf. Included in this phase will be a bakery, fine dining restaurant,
a 300-seat entertainment lounge, Tribal gaming offices, administrative offices
and back of house services. The upper level will contain the children's entertainment
area, a bowling center, a video arcade and a fast food restaurant.
Albuquerque
Isotopes Baseball Stadium, NM
This $28 million project was a renovation of the Albuquerque Sports Stadium. The firm worked with HOK Sports Architects, Kansas City, Missouri, in designing the renovation. Construction was completed in the spring of 2003. The City of Albuquerque renovated the facility to continue as a AAA professional baseball operation with the ability to also house other events. New seating bowls accommodate 11,000 to 12,000 fans, including suites. The facility has approximately 66,500 square feet of exterior seating, plus 3,440 square feet of exterior suite seating; 54,300 square feet of open concourse and walkway, plus 4,540 square feet of outdoor deck; 66,400 square of enclosed space; 7,000 square feet of open outdoor picnic area; and a 120,000 square foot playing field.
Sandia
Casino, Sandia Pueblo, NM
This new 210,000 s.f., one-story structural steel building includes administrative
and conference space, dining area, slots and table games area, bingo hall
and retail shops. This is supported on top of a two level underground pre-cast
concrete parking structure of approximately 386,000 s.f. Mr. Youngblood provided
the structural engineering and Construction Documents and served as the engineer
of record on structural steel portion of the project. Also included in the
design is a 60' diameter rotunda structure, supporting as much as 30' of sandstone
and interfacing with a timber entry Porte Cochere.
Genoveva-
Chavez Community Center, Santa Fe, NM
The people of Santa Fe have a beautiful two-level community center with a
140,000 square foot recreation complex complete with amenities to satisfy
most of its citizens. It will seat 1,000 spectators. The natatorium contains
two pools and will seat 400 people and includes support facilities. Also included
is a multi-purpose gym, as well as two racquetball courts. A variety of community
events can be held in a large community room (classrooms for workshops, educational
classes, etc).
Century Theaters, Downtown, Albuquerque, NM
Chavez-Grieves performed structural design of the Century Theaters complex. Construction began in October 2000 and was completed in the summer of 2001. It is a 14-screen cinema at First and Central in Albuquerque that anchors the city's 12-block entertainment district. The district is a creation of the Albuquerque Historic District Improvement Company and the Downtown Action Team.
